Benefits of B12, Acetyl-L Carnitine, Ginko Biloba, Omega 3 on Brain Health

Vitamin B12

B complex vitamins are closelylinked to cognitive abilities at all ages, from development to the decline of brain functions. Among them, vitamin B12 is synthesized by bacteria. Since the advent of sterilization procedures to make our food cleaner, it has become more difficult to obtain enough vitamin B12. This is particularly true for people on a plant-based diet, who need to ensure vitamin B12 supplementation.

Research has shown that vitamin B12 has fundamental roles in regulating the levels of neurotrophins, homocysteine, and oxidative stress, which contribute to cognitive decline when insufficient.

Omega 3

Similar to B12, omega 3 is crucial for maintain brain health throughout the human lifespan. DHA is the core member of omega-3 fatty acids, which is involved in key processes including neurogenesis, neuroplasticity, learning, memory and the survival of brain cells.

The notion that omega-3 supplementation can improve brain health and overall wellbeing is well established. In addition, research has shown that low vitamin B12 and omega-3 often coexist to impair brain functions, and co-supplementation is required in these individuals.

Acetyl-L Carnitine

There is compellingevidence that Acetyl-L Carnitine can improve energy levels, reduce oxidative stress and improve brain functions. Notably, clinical trials have reported neuroprotective effects in people who suffer from nervous system injury as well as neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s. In animal studies, Acetyl-L Carnitine led to a long-term improvement in memory.

Ginko Biloba

Ginko Biloba is a naturally occurring plant containing high levels of neuroprotective compounds, such as antioxidants. A comprehensive systematic review published on theFrontiers in Aging Neuroscience concluded that there is clear evidence to support the efficacy of Ginko Biloba extract in preventing cognitive decline and dementia.
